Removing the hard disk drive
(HDD)
NOTES:
Do not drop the hard disk drive or apply any
physical shock to it. The hard disk drive is
sensitive to physical shock. Improper handling can
cause damage and permanent loss of data.
Before removing the drive, have the user make a
backup copy of all the information on it if
possible.
Never remove the drive while the system is operating
or is in suspend mode.
Turn off the computer, or enter hibernation mode. NOTE: If you are using a PC Card, the
computer might not be able to enter hibernation
mode. If this happens, turn off the computer.
Then disconnect the ac adapter and all cables from
the computer.
Remove the battery pack.
Remove the screw (1) from the hard disk drive cover.
Open the LCD cover, and then slide the HDD (2) from
the system. NOTE: The hard disk is attached to the cover.
Remove the HDD cover (3, 4).
Installing the HDD
Attach the HDD cover on the replacement HDD, and
then insert the HDD in the ThinkPad system.
Reinstall the screw securing the HDD and cover.
Reinstall the battery pack.
Connect the ac adapter and all cables to the
computer that may have been removed in step 2 of
removing the HDD.
